Internship Opportunity: Human Rights Violations Statistics of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR)

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to assist with a research project focusing on human rights violations statistics across ECtHR member states, with particular emphasis on Türkiye. The position involves both qualitative and quantitative analysis of statistical data published by the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). The intern will support efforts to identify and compile relevant data concerning gaps, inconsistencies, or limitations in the Court’s publicly available statistics, with the goal of publishing this critical information in a clear and accessible format.
About the Project
This project seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of the current statistical data published by the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). It will identify patterns, inconsistencies, and significant gaps that affect both public understanding and scholarly analysis of human rights violations. Ultimately, the project aims to compile a comprehensive overview of these shortcomings to inform future improvements in the Court’s data transparency and reporting practices.
Key Responsibilities
• Extract and compile statistical data from ECtHR websites, reports, and official publications.
• Organize and synthesize information in formats suitable for analytical and evaluative purposes.
• Maintain clear and structured documentation of sources, methods, and findings.
• Support the development of internal reports or presentations based on the data.
Requirements
• Strong interest in human rights law, legal systems, or institutional transparency.
• Basic understanding of statistical analysis and data structuring.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently.
• Familiarity with the ECtHR and its documentation is a plus.
• Good command of English (reading and writing).
